DIARECT's "workhorse" is the eukaryotic baculovirus / insect cell system, which has a proven track record for the successful expression of human autoantigens and numerous other proteins of eukaryotic origin. It achieves high expression, proper folding and important post-translational modifications, the result being active and fully functional proteins. Our system uses standard cell lines and serum-free media for low-cost expression as well as simple technology transfer and upscaling processes.
The baculovirus system is the eukaryotic expression system of choice for the production of proteins which are destined for biochemical, diagnostic and high-throughput screening applications. DIARECT scientists have a decade of industrial experience in application of the baculovirus expression system. Fermentation can be carried out up to a culture volume of 40 liters, which, in favorable cases, has allowed the production of up to one gram of recombinant proteins. Our experience with the baculovirus system can also be used for establishing and optimizing production processes in which insect cells are used and data for regulatory supervision are required.
