Diseases:
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Antibodies against double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) have a very high disease specificity in SLE patients, correlate with the disease activity and therefore can be used for monitoring the SLE disease status.

The prevalence of dsDNA antibodies in SLE is 60-90% (depending on the method used for determination of dsDNA autoantibodies).

DIARECT's dsDNA antigen is plasmid dsDNA produced from E.coli. Circular plasmid dsDNA preparation is free of any singlestranded (ss)DNA regions and interfering nuclear proteins/autoantigens which can contaminate native DNA preparations from calf thymus or salmon sperm. The specificity of a dsDNA antibody assay can be significantly increased using circular plasmid dsDNA.

This dsDNA antigen is typically used for ELISA tests. A dsDNA formulation for use in RIA / Farr assay is available by special order.
